PRINCETON, W.Va. – Santa has come a few days early for some folks at the Mercer County Courthouse.

On Dec. 20, the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department Tax Office hosted a holiday party for conservators of the state, where they enjoyed a dinner and opened gifts that were donated by the community.

This is the result of the Giving Tree event that the tax office hosted this month. The Sheriff’s Tax Deputy, Lori Barton, tells us the conservators are grateful for everything they receive.

“You always say, every year, Christmas is for kids. Their whole soul lights up. They enjoy [it], no matter whether it’s a washcloth, whether it’s a pair of socks, if it’s a toy, whatever it is, they are so appreciative and thankful what everyone does and gives, and this means the world to them,” said Barton.
