The romantic fantasy adventure film Stardust is set to be broadcast on television, making it ideal family viewing.

The film, directed by Matthew Vaughn, will air today (December 21) from 3:30pm to 6:00pm on Channel 4. If you miss the initial airing, it will be available for free streaming on 4OD.

Stardust, based on Neil Gaiman’s 1999 novel of the same name, boasts a stellar cast including Claire Danes, Charlie Cox, Sienna Miller and Ricky Gervais. Other notable actors include Jason Flemyng, Rupert Everett, Peter O’Toole, Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert De Niro, with Sir Ian McKellen providing narration.

The film follows Tristan Thorn (Charlie Cox) as he embarks on a journey into a fairy realm to retrieve a fallen star and win the heart of his beloved Victoria Forester (Sienna Miller).

However, he gets more than he bargained for when he meets Yvaine (Claire Danes), who is in danger from the evil witch Lamia (Michelle Pfieffer) who seeks her eternal youth and beauty.

Since its release in 2007, Stardust has received positive reviews and was a box office success. It grossed $137 million worldwide against a budget of $70-88.5 million and has since become a cult classic among audiences, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Stardust has garnered a treasure trove of accolades since its release, impressing critics and audiences alike. Associated Press Film critic David Germain ranked the film in seventh spot among his top 10 films of 2007.

In 2008, it snapped up an Empire Award for Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy and didn’t stop there- it also claimed honours including GLAAD Media, Hugo, and Phoenix Film Critics Society Awards.

With its respectable 7.6 rating on IMDb from over 289,000 reviews and scoring 77% on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer from critics, alongside a lofty 86% audience approval Popcornmeter, the film is indisputably celebrated.

Adoration for Stardust continues unabated with one fan sharing: “Fantasy classic with a great cast, fantastic Neil Gaiman story and the film stays true to the book. Great special effects and scenery and Robert De Niro is wonderful.”
