Max George has undergone a life-saving procedure after facing heart health issues, culminating in a successful pacemaker implantation, which he has documented on social media for his fans.

In an emotional Instagram post featuring an image of his post-surgery scar, Max said: “Say hello to my little friend! Given the last 10 days, this is the best Christmas present I could’ve ever wished for.

“Pacemaker is in. Operation took around 2 and half hours. The main issue being some of my veins had collapsed where the wires were meant to go… But the surgeons and nurses at the NHS have been incredible.

“I owe everything to them. The surgeon kindly put my pacemaker just underneath a very special tattoo of mine.. So I’m sure it’s being looked after.”

His meaningful tattoo contains the birthdate of his late friend and bandmate Tom Parker, who sadly passed away in 2022 after battling glioblastoma.

Max, born in Manchester, further explained: “Few more tests to do due to inflamed lymph nodes on my lungs, but that’ll be easy work! Time to rest and then tackle life full on once again. Thank you for all your support. It’s meant a hell of a lot to myself and my family. Much love, Max.”

The NHS defines a pacemaker as “a small electrical device” that “sends electrical pulses to your heart to keep it beating regularly and not too slowly”. This life-saving gadget is wired directly into the heart, with pacing leads threaded through veins straight to the vital organ, reports the Mirror.

Max, who was hospitalised earlier this month, has been updating his worried followers about his condition as medics work to stabilise his heart rate. On December 12, he shared on Instagram: “Yesterday I felt really unwell and was taken in to hospital. Unfortunately after some tests they’ve found that I have some issues with my heart.

“I have a lot more tests to determine the extent of the problems and what surgery I will need to get me back on my feet. It’s gonna be a difficult few weeks / months… and Christmas in a hospital bed wasn’t exactly what I had planned! But, as always, I’m surrounded with love and support from my wonderful partner Maisie, her family, my family and friends.. and I’m 100% in the best place.”
