A Scots man who died in hospital after being found injured in the street in the early hours of the morning has been named by police.

Jamie Lucas, 33, was found on Stirling Street in Airdrie at around 2.45am this morning Sunday, December, 22. He was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow but sadly medics pronounced him dead a short time later.

Police confirmed a 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death and enquiries are ongoing. Detective Chief Inspector Jamie Campbell said: “Our thoughts remain with Jamie’s family and friends at this very difficult time. Officers will continue to support them as our investigation continues.

“I am aware that this incident will be of concern to the local community in Airdrie and I would like to reassure the public that additional patrols are in the area as part of this ongoing investigation and there is no threat to the wider community. I would ask anyone with concerns to speak to officers.

“I urge anyone with information that may assist our inquiry to contact us. If you have any personal footage or you were driving in the Stirling Street area and have dashcam footage, please come forward.
