Philippe Clement admits he’s been scarred for life by Rangers’ penalty pain in their agonising spot-kick sickener against Celtic.
And an edgy win over Dundee hasn’t done much to soothe those stinging Hampden wounds either. Vaclav Cerny’s winner got the job done at Ibrox but there was nothing like the thrills and spills we saw in the Premier Sports Cup final.
David Campbell said: “Rangers should have won that on Saturday by four or five but missed too many big chances. It’s that lack of killer instinct that cost us at Hampden and means we’ll be miles behind Celtic come May.”
Eddie Easson, Fife, added: “I have never read so much drivel in my life. Clement says he’s scarred for life after penalty-gate. Let me tell you there were a million Rangers fans who were scarred for life when under his mismanagement of Rangers threw the league away last season.”
Mark McManus, Purley, added: “So Mr Clement has been scarred for life. He needs to get real. He’s a football manager in a privileged position. He also goes on about how the whole of Europe are talking about the non-penalty. Really. Time to move on and given the dross served up against Dundee I expect he will receive a few more scars before he departs Scottish Football.”
Paul McCardle, Gourock, said: “Rangers are like Tyson Fury. They are always bragging about what they are gonna do but fail. They’re really bad losers, deluded and totally lacking in class with their trash talk while trying to intimidate and bully.”
Record Sport Chris Sutton columnist says he’d happily hand the Ibrox club a replay after last week’s controversy – as long as his Celtic side get another shot at lifting the trophy they were denied by a dodgy offside call back in 2003.
That got the backing of Scott McAdam, Glasgow, who said: “So Rangers want a replay? Sutton is bang on. Let’s play 2003 when John Hartson’s goal was chopped off. Where were the usual Hotline moaners then?”
Glen Mitchell added: “When are Clement and the rest going to stop greeting? Celtic never created any fuss over the clear red card Jefte should have got or the pull on Cameron Carter-Vickers at one of the Rangers goals.
“If we are going to call things out, let’s call all of it out and not just cherry pick those you like. Celtic won and the other team did not. I suspect this is more about the fact that Celtic are unquestionably the most successful club and the latest win just made that a whole lot clearer.”
But Ian Ferguson, Lochgilphead, said: “I agree with Sutton that the reaction is hysterical but not quite as petty and pathetic as in 2003 (coincidently) when a Celtic player accused fellow professionals of lying down to Rangers.”
Craig Wilson, Kirkintilloch, said: “Got to laugh at caller McSherry talking about Rangers and the shocking VAR decision not to award us a penalty last Sunday. His club are still greeting about Jorge Cadete in the 90s and the 2003 League Cup Final despite causing a shameful referee strike. We’ll take ZERO morality lessons from his club.”
Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, called to say: “The best way forward to end dubiety and narratives regarding Scottish football decisions is to put the Scottish blind society in charge. They can’t do any worse than the ones in charge right now.”
