PRINCETON, W.Va. – The Robert B. McNutt House hosted a Christmas Open House and candlelight tour on Dec. 7 to give people a glimpse into the past.
The Matthew French chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution put together the event, which gave guests a chance to walk through part of the historical building.
The tour took guests through in 1840s, pre-Civil War era, and colonial life as well, though the area remained unsettled until the 1820s.
The Regent for the chapter, Stella Moon, said that participants of the tour enjoyed learning about the house, and its important place in history.
“We just think it’s really important to preserve the history of this area. Because like I said, most people don’t even realize that this was where Princeton was formed and where it started,” said Moon. “In fact, across the street was the first bank. There’s a stone that marks it, but nobody knows it. So it’s just a matter of bringing back the history to this area and preserving it.”
The McNutt House hosts tours by appointment. They can be reached at (681) 282-5348 or (304) 425-2368.
