An influential former member of well-known Scottish traditional music group, Battlefield Band, is coming to Ayr in January.

Alan Reid will be the star turn when Ayr Phoenix Folk Club host their first music night of 2025, on Tuesday, January 7.

A spokesperson for Ayr Phoenix Folk Club said: “Alan has been taking Scottish folk music all over the world since 1975.

“He joined the Battlefield Band in 1969 and recorded almost 30 albums; in that time garnering a reputation for his playing and his singing.

“From 1990, Alan was the band’s principal songwriter.”

The year 2014 saw his music featured in the National Theatre of Scotland’s award-winning production of “The Glasgow Girls” musical about asylum seekers and The Battlefield Band was inducted into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame in November 2016.

Alan was also a guest artist in the Linn Records mammoth 12-CD recording of the songs of Robert Burns.

The spokesperson added: “As well as the recordings with Battlefield Band and with Rob Van Sante, Alan has released two solo albums, “The Sunlit Eye” and “Recollection.”

On the night Alan will be supported by the club’s stalwart floor singers at the Abbotsford Hotel, 14 Corsehill Road, Ayr KA7 2ST.

Doors open at 7pm. The event starts at 7.30pm. Pay at door £9 (cash only).
