Airdrie and Shotts MSP Neil Gray has welcomed a £56.3m funding increase for North Lanarkshire as part of the Scottish budget for 2025-26.
The funding, part of an over £1 billion increase in investment in local government in the budget, will empower local authorities across Scotland to improve schools, roads, bins and other local services.
However, the Holyrood Budget still needs to be voted through by Parliament – and local MSP Neil Gray has warned opposition politicians that they must back the budget if they want to see this real-term investment delivered to North Lanarkshire.
Mr Gray said: “The SNP is prioritising investment in public services, and I welcome this £56.3m investment in North Lanarkshire by the Scottish Government. Local authorities provide some of the most important services for our communities – so this real-terms increase in funding from the Scottish Government to local authorities should go a long way to improving schools, social care, roads, bins, and other local services here in Airdrie & Shotts.
“But the Scottish Parliament is still to approve the budget – I am therefore urging local opposition politicians to back this budget and deliver this investment to North Lanarkshire – they will not be forgiven by their constituents if they fail to do so.”
