A task force for the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services raided a “hot spot for illegal puppy sellers” near Poteet Jourdanton Highway.
24 puppies were seized and 21 criminal citations were issued, according to the post.
“It is against the law for pets to be sold on the side of the road, in parking lots or other unauthorized spaces,” ACS said in the post. “By law, any breeder who sells directly to the public (in person or online) must have and display all required litter and seller permits in their advertising.”
They also said that unsterilized and unvaccinated animals should be vaccinated and sterilized at saacs.net.
“Backyard breeders who prioritize profit over an animal’s well-being flood the community with unsterilized, unvaccinated, and, in many cases, unhealthy animals,” they said in the post.
ACS plans more raids on illegal sellers next year.
