A design by a talented pupil from a primary school in Cambuslang has been chosen as the winner of a competition to create an official Christmas card for the area’s Member of Parliament.

Jessica Macleod, aged 10, from St Charles’ primary school, fought off tough competition to claim the top spot in the competition organised by Michael Shanks MP for Rutherglen.

The youngster’s creative design of the Cambuslang Miners’ Memorial, decorated with Christmas lights and snowflakes, stood out among many impressive submissions.

As the winner, Jessica’s design appears on the front of the MP’s official Christmas card, which has been sent out to constituents across the area.

All competition entrants were celebrated at a prize-giving event at Rutherglen Library in the run-up Christmas, where Michael Shanks MP presented prizes to the winners and runners-up.

The competition runners-up were Christine Atiso from St Charles’ Primary, Robyn Duffy from Muiredge Primary in Uddingston, and Kerry Docherty from St Joseph’s Primary in Blantyre.

It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the talent and hard work of all those who participated.

“The standard of entries this year was incredibly high, and it was a pleasure to see such creativity from our local students.

“Thank you to all who took part, and particularly well done to Jessica Macleod, whose wonderful design depicting the Cambuslang Miners Memorial features on the front of the card.”
