A throuple has spoken out about their Christmas celebration idiosyncrasies and the judgement they face, including the dilemma of who is the middle spoon, as well as dealing with family reactions. Alana, 27, Kevin, 33, and Megan, 37, entered into a three-way committed relationship five years ago after connecting on the dating app 3Fun, embracing the label of a ‘throuple’.
Despite facing criticism and comments about being doomed to “straight to hell”, the trio remains undeterred in expressing their love for one another, reports the Mirror. The non-conventional household, which cohabitates happily, acknowledges the complexity of the festive period, as grappling with three sets of in-laws can pose certain challenges.
Alana divulged to What’s The Jam: “As a throuple, we sometimes face challenges with family during the holidays,” citing hurdles like “There have been misunderstandings and awkward moments from those less familiar with our relationship.”
She also told OK!: “It’s definitely all eyes on us whenever we attend a festive event together. Whether people already know about our relationship or are just meeting us for the first time, you can often feel the tension in the room.”
However, Alana stressed their holiday celebrations are not as unconventional as some might presume: “The funny thing is, our Christmas doesn’t actually look as different as people think. There just happens to be three of us but we celebrate just like everyone else.”
This year, the throuple are looking forward to a unique Christmas celebration that includes a trip to the cinema and lounging at home in matching onesies. Kevin shared their holiday plans: “Alana loves decorating, so she sets the scene in the house. Megan is the cook and prepares whatever fantastic meal we have.
“We go to the movies in the morning and then spend the rest of the day together, snuggling, relaxing, having some hot cocoa, and, of course, watching football.”
The trio, who share an extraordinary bond, believe their festive season is filled with as much love as anyone else’s.
“The holidays don’t have to look a certain way to be meaningful – what matters most is the love and intention behind how we spend them,” said Megan. “Being able to forge new traditions together has been one of the most rewarding parts of our journey as a throuple.”
Despite facing judgement for their relationship, especially during the festive period, Kevin disclosed: “Most people on the internet say that we’re going straight to hell. But Santa Claus doesn’t discriminate.”
Residing in Colorado allows them to avoid complicated family gatherings. “Since we live in another state, we don’t spend the holidays with our families in person,” Alana explained.
“We do video calls or send gifts instead, and plan visits at other times of the year. It just helps avoid any stress of splitting the time and lets us enjoy the holidays together.”
The threesome has a clever strategy to ensure no one feels left out during bedtime – they take turns being the middle spoon every night. Kevin shared: “We rotate [who is the middle spoon] every night.”
He further revealed their unique memory aid to keep track: “We use the MAK and cheese method to stay in order. This simply means Megan, Alana and Kevin – this is how we remember who is in the middle, just the order we rotate in. One of us may let out a little snore here and there, but a quick nudge stops that.”
The self-proclaimed ‘Camp Throuple’ has amassed a substantial following on Instagram, where they share updates about their relationship, birthday trips, and everyday life.
They often answer queries, such as whether they would consider adding a fourth member to their relationship, and offer insights into their unique bonding rituals, like queuing for a kiss. You can follow Alana, Kevin, and Megan’s journey on their Instagram page here.
