TAZEWELL, Va. – In Tazewell county, a local man is being celebrated for nearly a century of life well-lived, and his continuing dedication to his profession.
Nearly 80 years after serving his country in World War II, and one day before his 99th birthday, Nick Radyk is still hard at work.
“He’s here providing services daily for folks that are sometimes 30 years younger than him,” said Brian Beck, CEO of the Appalachian Agency for Senior Citizens. “So, it’s very unique and very uncommon to have somebody that’s 99 years old that shows up to work with the dedication and continued impact for older adults.”
Radyk has spent the last decade working for the Appalachian Agency for Senior Citizens. He started the job at 88 years old, and his commitment did not go unnoticed.
On Monday, Dec. 23, the day before his Christmas Eve birthday, the agency celebrated Radyk for his tireless work, and of course, nearly a century of life well-lived.
“I feel great, I didn’t think they’d keep me this long. But it’s been a very good job, and they’ve all—they’re like my family,” said Radyck.
