AUSTIN, Texas — Three Austin Police Department (APD) officers were suspended over the past month, according to disciplinary memos posted by the city’s Office of Police Oversight.
Documents show two officers were suspended indefinitely while one was suspended temporarily. According to the Texas local government code, an indefinite suspension is equivalent to dismissal from the department.
One officer was suspended Dec. 13 after he was arrested for “driving while intoxicated and unlawfully carrying weapons,” according to APD. He also did not comply with an Internal Affairs investigation and went on an “unauthorized trip” during leave.
Another officer was suspended Dec. 18 for attempting to create an “external social relationship” with a victim and sharing private information with them, records show.
The third officer was temporarily suspended Nov. 26 through Dec. 6 after taking and posting photos while working during a presidential visit.
