KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV/Gray News) – Customers and employees at a popular holiday pop-up bar in Missouri threw bar stools to subdue a knife-wielding man who had been kicked out earlier in the night.

Dominique Allen provided KCTV with video showing people inside Miracle on the Plaza, a holiday pop-up bar at Kansas City’s Country Club Plaza, on Dec. 14. In the video, people use bar stools to stop a man whom Allen said had a knife.

Rustam Huseinov, 37, was arrested following the incident. According to court documents, bar employees kicked him out around 11 p.m. because he bit an employee.

About an hour later, Huseinov returned to the bar with a “large kitchen knife,” the documents show. He is accused of trying to attack the employees who had escorted him out earlier, allegedly yelling that he was going to “end them.”

Police responded as customers and employees began throwing bar stools at Huseinov and were able to barricade him into a corner where he could not harm anyone. He was then taken into custody.

Prosecutors charged Huseinov with the following:

  • 3 counts armed criminal action (felony)
  • 1 count second-degree assault (felony)
  • 1 count first-degree terrorist threat (felony)
  • 1 count first-degree trespass (misdemeanor)
  • 1 count armed criminal action (felony)

He is being held in the Jackson County Detention Center on $75,000 bond.

Huseinov appeared in court Monday, where he asked a judge to lower his bond. If he posts bond, he will not be allowed within 1,000 feet of the bar.

In a statement issued right after the incident, Miracle on the Plaza applauded the “heroic actions” of the employees and promised additional security at the location.

Police say the business sustained numerous losses from the attack, including broken glassware and unpaid tabs from the 75 customers who were in the bar at the time. The physical damage is estimated to be more than $3,000, and the unpaid tabs totaled over $900.
