(Gray News) – A fire department in Florida surprised a young boy with an early Christmas gift.

On December 18, Fernandina Beach Fire Department firefighters responded to a bicycle accident involving a young boy whose foot was pinned between the spokes and frame of his bicycle. Unfortunately, they had to cut the bicycle spokes to free the patient’s foot for treatment.

Once their patient was safely freed, the firefighters purchased a new bike and helmet and surprise him at the hospital with it. The department shared a photo of the moment on Facebook.

“This reminds us of what the holidays are truly about. Merry Christmas and happy holidays from our fire family to yours. Stay safe, Fernandina,” the fire department said in the post.
