Hogmanay celebrations in Monkton have been cancelled after South Ayrshire Council were unable to find staff to cover the event.

Plans had been in place to host a get together at the Carvick Webster Hall on Tuesday, December 31 but the lack of a hall keeper has meant disappointment for residents.

South Ayrshire Council said they had “done everything they can” to get the event going as planned because of its importance to the local community but efforts to find someone to cover the shift have proven fruitless.

Posting on Facebook, Monkton Community Council said: “Monkton Community Council are sorry to advise that this year’s Hogmanay get together at the Carvick Webster Hall has been cancelled.

“South Ayrshire Council are unable to provide any hall keeper to open the hall for the event.

“MCC members wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”

A South Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “Knowing how important this event is to the community, our team have done everything they can to source staff to open the hall for Hogmanay.

“Unfortunately attempts have been unsuccessful and after discussion with Monkton Community Council, they have taken the decision to cancel the event.”
