Celtic’s mini wobble at Tannadice has given Rangers fans a glimmer of hope that there could yet be a way back into the title race.

The Hoops drew a rare blank as they shared the spoils with Dundee United on Sunday, dropping points for only the second time this term. As Gers got the job done at home to Dundee 24 hours prior, Philippe Clement’s side have now reduced the deficit to nine points. And three wins from their next three games – including the January 2 Old Firm powderkeg at Ibrox – would well and truly see the race for the championship flag back ON.

It’s a big ask, though, as Rangers face two tricky games on the road to St Mirren and Motherwell before the visit of Celtic. Saints supporters have been treated to some late drama in recent weeks after stoppage-time wins away to St Johnstone and Ross County. Stephen Robinson would love a repeat on home soil and here, Record Sport tells you everything you need to know ahead of the Premiership showdown.

Team news

Rangers No1 Jack Butland sparked an injury panic when he pulled out of Saturday’s 1-0 win over Dundee just minutes before kick-off. But it was later revealed the Englishman rushed to the hospital to welcome another baby into the clan after his wife went into labour earlier in the afternoon. Butland will be back between the sticks in Paisley. However, John Souttar is expected to miss the entire festive period with a groin injury, while long-term crock Neraysho Kasanwirjo has returned to parent club Feyenoord. Tom Lawrence also remains sidelined.
