The first Christmas babies have been born in hospitals across the country.

Santa Claus stopped at maternity units up and down Scotland to make some extra special deliveries earlier today. At Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock, a family from Ayr are celebrating the arrival of what may well be the first be the first Christmas Day tot to be born in the country this year. Lauren Sim’s baby girl arrived at 12.30am, weighing 5lb and 8oz.

Meanwhile, also at the Ayrshire Maternity Unit, Yvonne and Paul Wilson from Ayr welcomed a baby boy weighing 5lb and 10oz at 3.16am. The youngster has become a younger brother to Millie age 16, Calum age 13 and Kieran age 7.

Next to arrive, was a baby boy for Sarah Ferguson and Kevin Hartshorn, also from Ayr. The tot arrived at 6.57am and weighed 5lb and 3oz. Parents in the NHS Lothian area also took delivery of very special packages when they welcomed their newborn babies into the world.

Baby Wilson became one of the best Christmas presents when she arrived at St John’s Hospital, Livingston at 5.16am. The baby girl, who is yet to be named, was born to proud parents, Lisa-Marie Hunt, 35, and Gordon Wilson, 36, from East Calder in West Lothian. She tipped the scales at 6lb 7oz.

Dad Gordon Wilson said: “It’s absolutely amazing that we have welcomed our precious baby girl on Christmas morning. We are so in love with her already. She’s our extra special Christmas gift we didn’t expect as she wasn’t due until the New Year, but we’re just so happy she’s here.”

A new mum in Glasgow is also celebrating after receiving the best gift she could have ever hoped for. Emma McLaughlin, 21, welcomed a very special delivery during the small hours of Christmas morning. At 1.48am, little Kiara Rose was born at the Princess Royal maternity ward weighing 8lb 6oz. The mum, from Springburn, is happy and healthy, resting up following the arrival.

Katarzyna Wojcik delivered her own little girl a few hours later at 4.16am at a weight of 6lbs 5oz. The bundle of joy’s father is Krisztian Poth.

Across the city at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Ayesha Saleem, 24, gave birth to the first Christmas baby at the maternity ward. The little girl, who has not yet been named, arrived at 2.01am.

Alyshia Glen of Bellshill and her partner Daniel McGhee met their daughter for the first time at 1.35am on Christmas Day. The little one weighed in at 8lbs 6oz at University Hospital Wishaw.

Meanwhile, it was double the joy as Christmas Day twins Karney and Veny Chima entered the world at 4.45am and 4.46am in Aberdeen Maternity Hospital. The twins, a boy and a girl were born to mum Mercy Simons and dad Chima Amanze of Tillydrone.

They were the first babies to be born in the city on Christmas Day. Born first Karney was 5lbs 4oz, while his little sister Veny followed a minute later, she was 5lbs.
