PHOENIX (KPHO/Gray News) – Four people were injured in a shooting and possible stabbing that stemmed from a fight inside a terminal at the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport on Christmas night.

Phoenix Police and Fire responded to reports of gunfire at a restaurant within Terminal 4 outside of the security checkpoints at about 9:40 p.m. on Wednesday.

Officers at the scene found three people who had been shot. One woman was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and two men were hospitalized in stable, non-life-threatening condition, police said.

Police detained a man and a juvenile female in the parking garage. The man was hospitalized with at least one cut or stab wound and is in stable condition, according to Phoenix police.

An initial investigation found that a group of people who knew each other were involved in a fight that led to one person firing a handgun.

Police emphasized that everyone involved knew each other, and no one else in the airport was injured.

The Terminal 4 security checkpoint and the PHX Sky Train were temporarily closed as part of the investigation. The areas have since reopened, and airport operations have returned to normal Thursday morning.

Two hours after the shooting, an armed man arrived at the airport and was detained. Police said the man had heard talks of an “active shooter” at the airport and showed up with his own guns.

Multiple officers detained the armed man, and he is being booked in Maricopa County Jail on several charges, police said.
