Use up your leftover turkey and give yourself a post-Christmas health kick with this high-protein soup.
Turkey is, for many people, the best part of the Christmas dinner spread. But while lots of us only eat turkey on December 25, it is actually a great meat to eat year-round. As well as having a low fat content, it actually contains more protein than chicken, making it ideal for those looking to lose fat.
However, if you’re not keen on eating your leftovers as they are, why not try adding them to a wintry soup? On TikTok, @sollowsfitness shared a recipe for a one-pot turkey and lentil soup that tastes great and is good for you. The recipe is “super easy” and doesn’t take long to make.

When it comes to the prep work, all you really have to do is cook the turkey first. Then you just toss it into the one pot and add the rest of your ingredients.
Other ingredients to add include chopped tomatoes, chicken broth, peppers, corn and a lot of spices. Once in the pot it will make a “great” tasting, super speedy soup.
Here’s the recipe for the easy and nutritious soup:
- 1.5lbs cooked turkey pieces
- One large onion
- Four to five cloves of garlic
- Two cups of lentils (rinsed)
- One large tin of chopped tomatoes
- One pepper, chopped
- One can of corn
- Six cups of low sodium chicken broth
- Spices include paprika, chilli flakes, red pepper flakes, chilli powder and Italian herbs (adjust the amount to your liking)
To make it, all you need to do is cook your turkey first, and chop all the vegetables. Then pop all the ingredients into the slow cooker, and let it simmer on a low heat for four to five hours.
Since the recipe was shared, dozens of people have viewed the tutorial, and many seem keen to try it out. It looks like the perfect winter warmer to boost your health and get your taste buds tingling.
One person said: “Sounds like a great recipe. Thanks.” Another added: “The comfort of chilli is always special.”
Turkey has many health benefits, as it’s low in fat and a good source of B vitamins and minerals. It can also promote good heart health. Meanwhile, lentils are also high in protein and low in fat and calories.
Not to mention, eating lentils can help to support the digestive system, and they could also reduce the risk of chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, obesity and cancer if consumed regularly.
