HOUSTON — A Houston woman is facing an unlawful restraint charge for allegedly locking her mother in a room for hours on Christmas Day.
According to court documents, 25-year-old Abygail Afiong Ekpo padlocked her mother in a bedroom at an apartment complex off Bellfort Street just off the Gulf Freeway. They said she left her in the room for nearly 12 hours without any way to contact anyone or get out safely.
The court documents say the mother got out of the room by jumping from a second-floor apartment window. Authorities said she was injured but it’s unclear how badly she was hurt.
Ekpo posted bond and was released. She’s due back in court on Jan. 2.
