Hot off the heels of the Gavin and Stacey Christmas special, Mathew is prepping for another festive highlight.

He’s set to swap the familiar settings of Billericay and Barry for the bright lights of London this New Year’s Eve, taking centre stage at a significant event. Not just an accomplished actor, Mathew also works as a DJ and will be the main attraction at Camden’s Electric Ballroom, spinning tracks at an indie celebration on December 31.

He’s joining forces with Propaganda for the New Year’s Eve extravaganza, with the event’s blurb playfully nodding to his role in Gavin and Stacey: “What’s occurring, London? For one night only, Propaganda is back at Electric Ballroom to throw one huge NYE party! With none other than Gavin and Stacey’s Mathew Horne joining as a special guest DJ!”

With tickets going for a mere £15, the organisers added: “The Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special may be the only thing on our wish list this year, but we promise this will be THE night to remember! Mathew Horne (Gavin) and DJ Dan (Oasis Aftershow DJ) will be bringing the bangers and vibes to ring in the new year and make you feel like you’re in the best party in Barry Island! Crackin.”

According to BBC viewership figures, the Gavin And Stacey finale snagged the top spot for Christmas Day ratings since 2008. The Mirror reports that the heartfelt farewell to the much-loved series, which saw Smithy and Nessa finally get their fairytale ending, drew in an average audience of 12.3 million, as per overnight data, reports Lancs Live.

While it seemed we’d said our final goodbyes to the cherished series, insiders have hinted that the extraordinary success of the Christmas special might lead the BBC to ponder prolonging its tenure. One told The Sun: “James [Corden] and Ruth [Jones] are adamant this is the last of Gavin and Stacey. But, when a programme achieves such results, execs will always hope for more.

“At the end of the day, ratings talk and it would be madness to close the door on such a hit forever when fans loved it so much. Bosses have had casual discussions about whether options like a Pete and Dawn spin-off could work. They were always more separate to the main group and a new universe could be developed which didn’t involve any of the core cast.”

Although there’s ambiguity about the show’s future, Ruth and James have joined forces anew, this time embarking on a literary venture: a tome detailing the intricacies of creating the show. They shared: “We’re so excited to be sharing the story behind the story of Gavin and Stacey. The show has played a huge part in our twenty-five-year friendship and we hope this book will give readers a fresh insight into how it all came about.”
