AUSTIN, Texas — A young pup is on the mend after he was on the verge of death, according to Austin Pets Alive! (APA!).
APA! staff said the pup named Furby, who was one month old at the time, was brought in on Dec. 9 from Austin Animal Center. The golden doodle had bruising on his abdomen, neurological issues and a fever.
At one point, there was fear Furby wouldn’t make it.
However, after weeks of round-the-clock care and treatment, the pup was taken in by one of the shelter’s fosters once he was in a healthier state.
Pamela Martin has been a fostering animals for over 14 years, and calls stories such as Furby’s “rewarding.” Furby reportedly couldn’t stand on his own, but on Thursday he was playing with his fellow furry friends, sprinting on the grass and full of energy.
Martin, who has other foster dogs, noted that their presence has also helped in Furby’s journey.
“He’s starting to play and I’m seeing a personality coming out, and it’s wonderful to see,” said Martin.
Martin said Furby will be ready for adoption, soon.
According to APA!, the pup had been surrendered to the city’s shelter by its owner – who staff believe is a breeder. Staff noted that there is a demand for more breeders that leads to more animals in shelters, as well as an increase in medical complications.
