The Platt family on Coronation Street is facing potential tragedy as David Platt’s situation looks increasingly perilous.
Following a period of high drama for the iconic soap clan, viewers saw matriarch Gail (portrayed by Helen Worth) leave the Street after 50 years on Christmas Day.
In recent scenes, David (played by Jack P. Shepherd) has been tangling with the siblings of Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan). Earlier this year, fans watched as David concocted a plan to steal a substantial sum of illicit funds from villain Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor).
With the future of Gail’s house at stake and the looming threat of homelessness for his family, David’s decision to swipe the money seemed like the only solution. However, the repercussions of his actions are now threatening the family’s safety as Harvey’s underlings demand the return of their cash.
Coronation Street’s producer Kate Brooks has addressed the predicaments David will face in 2025. She hinted at “massive consequences” for David, suggesting “things escalate massively” for the Platts, with the show planning to broadcast a “massive stunt.”, reports Plymouth Live.
Kate divulged: “The story we are telling is one of a very desperate David trying to protect his family and trying to keep his family and keep the dogs at bay, to keep Harvey and his goons at bay.”
Confirming a jaw-dropping stunt, she remarked: “And it comes to a massive head in early February when we play a massive stunt which has massive consequences for David. In trying to protect everyone, he ends up losing quite a few things that he holds dear.”
She also spilled that “somebody does get embroiled in David’s downfall which is quite unexpected”. Explaining further, she said: “David is a hairdresser he’s not used to being involved and embroiled with bad guys, drug barons and gangsters. That’s not his world.”
“But what happens if you take a guy that’s just very ordinary and put him in that world where people are acting and reacting without any thought of consequence.”
In what seemed like teasing the fate of a family pet, Kate suggested: “They don’t care about David. They don’t care he has a dog; which might be a bit of a spoiler! ” However, she quickly added: “The dog doesn’t die, or does he?”.
Kate hinted at plenty more action for the family, saying: “It was important to show how a normal fella reacts to all of this. But there’s masses of stuff for the Platts going forward. They are going to be very busy indeed!”.
