TEXAS, USA — Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones described his team best in the upcoming Netflix documentary: “a soap opera 365 days a year.”
Jones has seen three Super Bowls in his tenure as owner – all in the ’90s – and has successfully built the Cowboys into the most valuable sports franchise in the world … nine years in a row. It might have been a minute since Jones has been crowned a champion … but that streak is now over.
Jones is a champion again, but the title might not be one that’ll go on the mantle or next to the Lombardi’s at the Star in Frisco.
As the year comes to a close, Jones was not only one of WFAA’s top newsmakers of the year (duh), but also just got crowned with Texas Monthly‘s “highest dishonor”: Bum Steer of the Year.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have crowned our magazine’s highest dishonor. 👑Our Bum Steer of the year. . . is Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. https://t.co/G0YTyhuQAapic.twitter.com/W4RNhGmsKv

“Under his ownership, the Dallas Cowboys have become a moneymaking mediocrity,” the article stated, in part.
The Dallas Cowboys are valued at $10.1 billion, according to Forbes, up 12% from 2023. The Forbes rankings are in step with Sportico’s rankings released earlier this year, which also had the Cowboys at No. 1 at $10.32 billion.
Jones and the Cowboys have reached these heights despite their 28-year Super Bowl appearance draught, which dates back to their 1995 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
We broke down all the different headlines Jones found himself intertwined in this year in our top newsmakers of 2024 recap here (and that’s only a snippet).
