Footage has emerged of Hibs skipper Joe Newell in a foul mouthed rant over their city rivals.

The Easter Road captain played as David Gray’s side won their first Edinburgh derby at Tynecastle in five years thanks to Dwight Gayle’s deft winner, which has piled the pressure on struggling Hearts boss Neil Critchley. A 3,500 strong travelling support celebrated a rare victory in Gorgie after seeing their first half dominance go unrewarded when a comical Rocky Bushiri own goal on the strike of half-time cancelled out Kye Rowles’ at the other end.

Now a clip of Newell is doing the rounds on social media, with the midfielder caught on camera turning the air blue while referring to the Tynecastle club. While the original clip has been deleted from X, a shortened version is now being circulated, which shows Newell, seemingly in a bar, looking straight down the camera, saying: “Up the f***** Hibs, f*** them Jambo bastards.”

It’s understood the footage is from prior to the Boxing Day derby win for the Hibees, although how soon before is unknown. Newell started the capital clash but was withdrawn on 69 minutes in the double sub that saw match winner Gayle brought on along with Kwon. The veteran striker can also be seen in the background of the video.

The three points lifts Hibs up to seventh in the Scottish Premiership table. Hearts slipped back into the bottom two, currently occupying the relegation playoff spot on 16 points ahead of Sunday’s trip to Dingwall to take on Ross County.
