MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A man accused of violently attacking a man in a wheelchair was arrested by Mason County deputies on Christmas Eve.
The incident was reported along Keister Road in Mason County
When deputies arrived at the house they found two men in the doorway of the home.
One man was laying on the floor while the other was sitting in a wheelchair.
According to deputies, Mayes accused the other man of harming his mother and ‘putting her in the hospital.’
While putting him in the cruiser, deputies saw blood on both of Mayes’ hands.
The man in the wheelchair told deputies Mayes became aggressive after he told him to put a dog in a cage.
The victim told deputies Mayes punched him in the head and face, then picked up a metal rod and started hitting him.
A large knot and bruise were located at the top of the victim’s head, along with a large deep cut on the right forearm, deputies reported.
Deputies found an orange metal rod at the scene.
Mayes was arrested and taken to the Western Regional Jail for malicious wounding.
