A man has been charged after shocked dog walkers alerted cops to an alleged knife incident in a busy Lanarkshire park.

At around 10am on Monday, December 23, officers were called to the Tombs, Tombs Park in Coatbridge.

Dog walkers claimed they spotted a man carrying a knife with a four to six-inch blade.

A 43-year-old man was searched and allegedly found to be in possession of a knife.

It is claimed he failed to provide his details and was arrested and taken to a local police station where his identity was confirmed.

He was then charged with having a bladed article in a public place, failing to provide his details, and it is alleged he also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

The man was held in custody to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “About 10.10am on Monday, December 23 2024, officers attended the Tombs, Tombs Park Coatbridge after reports from dog walkers that a male was carrying a knife with a 4-6 inch blade.

“A 43-year-old male was searched and found to be in possession of a knife, he failed to provide his details and was arrested and taken to a local police office where his identity was confirmed.

“He was charged with having a bladed article in a public place, failing to provide his details and he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. He was held in custody to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court.”
