AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA/Gray News) – A man is facing a murder charge in connection to the death of his 106-year-old grandmother, according to police.

Amarillo police officers responded to a call on N.E. 14th Street on Nov. 26 regarding the death of 106-year-old Cecilia Ferguson.

Police reported Cecilia Ferguson lived at the home with her grandson, 35-year-old Michael Alexander Ferguson.

When officers arrived at the scene, police said they noted suspicious circumstances around Cecilia Ferguson’s death.

As a result, the Amarillo Police Department Homicide Unit took over the investigation and Michael Ferguson was brought in for an interview.

Although police said he denied involvement in her death, he was arrested and booked into the Potter County Detention Center on a charge of injury to the elderly.

Police said on Monday the charge against Michael Ferguson was upgraded to murder after further investigation. A warrant was issued by the Potter County District Attorney’s Office accusing Michael of causing Cecilia Ferguson’s death.

Police said Michael Ferguson remains in the Potter County Detention Center.

The investigation is still ongoing. Police ask anyone with information about the case to contact the Homicide Unit at 806-378-9468.
