Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell says the club won’t be quiet in the January transfer window – but neither will there be wholesale changes.

Kettlewell says he’s already working towards the summer window, and plans for this one started six months ago.

But with several players like Callum Slattery and Jack Vale on their way back from long-term injury, Kettlewell doesn’t anticipate a lot of incomings, and hinted that some might head out, at least temporarily.

He said: “I would think we would be active in some way. I don’t foresee that being wholesale changes, not even close to it.

“We’ve been working away on it since the summer, that’s kind of what you do, if you’re going through best practice, you’re always working towards the next one.

“Where I always wanted to get when I first came here was to be working two windows ahead, as opposed to one.

“Just working towards one window is a real short-term thought process, so that will give you a decent indication that we’re trying to work towards the summer, as opposed this one now.

“We’ve had a big squad, I’m glad we’ve had a big squad, with the amount of injuries we’ve had, and the biggest part for me is to make sure everybody contributes.

“I’ve said that to the players, that was my opening gambit on day one, that they’re not just here to be named as a Premiership player at Motherwell. You have to contribute and that has been a big thing for me.

“We have to ensure that everybody here is in a position to contribute, and if they’re not, what would be the solution to that.

“Sometimes it might be a loan, sometimes it might be that their future lies elsewhere to get the game-time they feel they require.

“We probably find ourselves a little bit short at the top-end of the pitch with Zach Robinson’s serious injury, so there are a couple of areas that we need to try and pick off, and see if we can find the correct one.

“But I’ll stress it again, I’m not bringing someone in just for the heck of it, we have to make sure they contribute.”
