There are plenty of words used to describe the festive season.

Advent tends to be the countdown to December 25, meanwhile Yuletide typically describes the few days you are marking your celebrations. But what about when Christmas ends?

Typically, this time still feels like you’re in holiday mode. While some spend it watching Christmas films or gorging on leftovers, others take the opportunity to hibernate in bed.

While there’s no official term to describe period between Christmas and the New Year, there are several terms that have caught on with revellers.

‘Crimbo Limbo’ has gained popularity, while ‘Twixmas’ is a slightly more formal and officially recognised term used for the period from December 27 to December 30.

Crimbo Limbo is an apt phrase because it describes that in-between feeling people get before returning to work full time. They may still have some social gatherings to attend or presents to give out.

Meanwhile, the word ‘Twixmas’ has interesting origins. It marries the old-fashioned word ‘betwixt’, meaning ‘between’, with ‘Christmas’. It’s a label that’s stealing hearts on social media too.

One TikTok user posted a relaxing clip captioned: “Twixmas, my favourite time of year. When the cookies overfloweth and the pajamas stay on around the clock”. The video shows cosy festive lights, a steaming hot chocolate being poured, and blinds closing out the world. Social media users gushed in the comments.

Responses ranged from “beautiful” to “this is such a vibe”, while someone else expressed surprise: “Who knew Twixmas was a term lol”.
