ROUND ROCK, Texas — As Round Rock continues to grow, the Round Rock Sports Center, which hosts all kinds of national sporting events, is also set to expand.
Brian Stillman, the Division Manager of Sports Facilities and Operations in Round Rock, said the complex holds around 75 multi-day sporting events at the complex. Also home to national table tennis and fencing events, it’s part of why Round Rock has called itself “The Sports Capital of Texas”.
“The Sports Center has been open for 11 years now and we have had more demand than court space,” said Stillman.
That’s why Stillman said the complex is expanding. Construction is underway to build two additional basketball courts, which can also be split into four volleyball courts. The expansion will also provide stadium seating.
The project is being paid through a 2023 voter approved bond.
“Think about that for local play, the clubs and teams that practice during the week, that gives us that much more court space that Monday through Friday timeline for local play and participation,” Stillman said. “It really helps us on the weekend for major tournaments and events that come to town.”
The walls are going up on the expanded facility, and construction is expected to be completed in 2026.
