MADISON, Wis. (WISC) – A Wisconsin man is showing that actions speak louder than words following a school shooting in Madison.
Jeff Wild was among several others who showed up in front of Midvale Community Lutheran Church Monday afternoon to destroy his firearms.
In total, Wild had eight guns destroyed, including six handguns, a rifle and a shotgun.
The action came just a week after a student at Abundant Life Christian School brought two guns on campus and allegedly killed a teacher and fellow student.
Wild said the guns were surrendered to him Friday with the intention of being destroyed.
All the action was taken to help prevent further gun violence.
“We need to move forward in actually taking actions to reduce gun violence in our communities,” Wild said.
Wild said the action he took is one step in the right direction.
He said he has taken similar actions in the past. He also said destruction is just one part of getting guns out of the hands of people who are looking to do harm to themselves or to others.
Wild said he encourages faith-based communities, local leaders and others to take similar actions to reduce gun violence.
