A body has been found during searches for a man who vanished overnight on Shetland. Ian Napier, 58, vanished from the island at around 9pm on Friday, December 27.

Officers from Police Scotland previously said they were growing increasingly concerned about Ian, who was known to go walking and swimming in the south of the island. Sadly, police have confirmed they were aware of a body found in the water at Scousborough Bay in Shetland at around 11.40am on Saturday.

Formal identification is still to take place however Ian’s heartbroken family has been informed. The death is not being treated as suspicious.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11.40am on Saturday, December 28, 2024, police were made aware of a body found in the water at Scousborough Bay, Shetland. Formal identification is still to take place however the family of missing man Ian Napier, 58, has been informed.

“The death is not believed to be suspicious. A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.”
