Kyle Vassell reckons their Boxing Day demolition of Aberdeen is proof that Kilmarnock can produce a quality display for the entire 90 minutes.
The challenge now, he says, is to keep reproducing those levels.
The skipper bagged an 18th minute opener against the Dons before second half strikes from David Watson, Innes Cameron and Bruce Anderson led to a 4-0 trouncing and ensured it was seven games without a win for Jimmy Thelin’s men.
They’ll be looking to follow that up when they visit a resurgent Hibs side tomorrow. The Easter Road outfit have picked up four wins in their last five games following a challenging start to David Gray’s tenure as gaffer.
Vassell said: “It’s just been about putting two halves together and the Aberdeen game was the first one when we’ve really gone after a team.
“We have gone up in some games then got cautious and invited pressure onto us. This time we stayed aggressive, we stayed positive and fair play to the boys for taking their chance.
“We have been knocking on the door. Hearts was a great performance but that’s two 45 minutes put together this time.”
He added: “It’s not just about doing it for one game. The next game is now the most important one.
“That’s the only way we’ll climb the table and get to the top six. It shows what we’ve got and the squad the gaffer has put together.
“When you get the rhythm and momentum, it’s easier to win games. It becomes a habit and it’s now about putting that in place and making sure we pick up points everywhere.”
Killie have spent the campaign almost exlcusively in the bottom six and at times been just a point or two off the foot of the table. But after a four game unbeaten run, they sit seven points ahead of basement boys St Johnstone.
Vassell insists looking over their shoulders hasn’t been a focus this term as they look to mount a top six challenge in the second half of the campaign.
He said: “We have never been worried about where we are in the table. It’s a long season and this league is so tight, a couple of wins can turn your season. It happened to us last season, too.
“We have not been worried. We have too much in the dressing room to worry.”
