Luke Humphries has fired back at Peter Wright and wants to make him look silly with egg on his face.

The world champion faces Snakebite in a Sunday night blockbuster at the Ally Pally. Wright made big talk earlier in the competition when stating he was ready to take down Humphries and didn’t fear him or Luke Littler. Now it’s on the line as the pair go head-to-head in a feisty fourth round clash after the Scot beat Jermaine Wattimena and the champ sank Nick Kenny.

Humphries noted Wright’s comments and said: “He’s had a lot to say over the last couple of weeks where he says that he doesn’t fear me and Luke Littler. He says he’s going to smash us. So, yeah, I mean, all the pressure’s on him now because if he doesn’t, then the eggs on his face, not mine.

“I’m really, really relaxed and, if he doesn’t beat us, then it’s going to look silly on him, not me. I mean, I wanted to say something back, but I’m like: ‘Nah, let’s leave it’.

“I didn’t read the whole interview, but I see what he said and I’m thinking, how many times have people said, this is going to happen, this is going to happen and it never happens. I think he said something like Barney is going to smash me and Peter is going to smash Jermaine. Well, he got his end of the bargain.

“But it’s just, I think Peter loves to play the mind games, but it don’t work with me. I’m one world title away from almost matching his career and I’m about 25 years younger. I think one world title would sort of match everything he’s ever achieved in the game.

“I think Peter has won two world titles and six major tournaments without the Masters, I think. Or he’s won five and two worlds. So I would have matched him without the Masters, which ain’t ranked.

“So that would have been a nice coup because I rate him as one of the best that’s ever been. It’d be nice if I could win this to match him.

“So, yeah, I don’t look into it too much. I think he’s trying to play the mind games but, unfortunately for him, it don’t work for me and it probably won’t work for Luke because he said he don’t fear us, but if I don’t fear someone, I don’t keep mentioning them all the time.”
