A Scots bar has hit back at a tourist who left a scathing review after being refused entry “due to wearing jogging bottoms”.
The punter had booked a table for six at Slug & Lettuce on George Street in Edinburgh on December 14. But when the group arrived, he claimed the bouncers took an “instant dislike to them”.
The customer, who was wearing the bottoms, admitted the attire wasn’t for the taste of the bar. But, as reported in Edinburgh Live, the experience didn’t end there – the holidaymaker accused the bouncers of smoking at the door and being rude to the party.
Leaving a one-star review, the customer said they would have left a zero-star review if possible. However, the bar’s manager responded by saying staff had a different recollection of what happened on the night.
The review stated: “I could give 0 stars I would. The bouncers on the door acting as if they own the place!! Absolutely ridiculous. We had a table booked for 10pm for six people, 14th December 2024. We turned up to get in and the bouncers instantly took a disliking to one of the men in our group and instantly turned us away from the door because he supposedly had ‘track/jogger bottoms on’ I want to add, we were so respectful when we arrived.
“And also the man in question had smart trouser bottoms on, with smart trainers. Not track/jogger bottoms on. The bouncer then felt the man in questions bottoms, and then admitted the are not track bottoms. Your bouncers at the door were completely unprofessional, smoking cigarettes at the door and instantly being rude to our full party for no reason what so ever, when they literally let three men in front of us in with similar outfits on.
“Completely unacceptable and your bouncers have ruined our full night when some of us had travelled from Manchester to enjoy Edinburgh and have completely set the seen on Edinburgh up shockingly for us. Have a rethink on who you hire on your doors.”
The venue manager then responded by claiming the reviewer’s friend was offered the chance to get changed and come back before the team admitted making a mistake for getting the trousers wrong. They went on to say how the group were being abusive to the door team which lead to entry not being permitted to the rest of the party.
The manager hit back with: “Hello I do think we have different views on what happened on Saturday night. Your friend was originally offered to go get changed and come back and they would have gotten in. The door team apologise for getting the trousers wrong as (as you mentioned in your email), we do have a dress code on a Saturday night for the venue which is listed in the terms and conditions of your booking.
“The party was then verbally abusive to the door team which is why entry was not permitted to the rest of the group. We apologise you felt this ruined your night, however our teams deserve to come to work without receiving abuse. As for the smoking on the door- I will take this up with the company we employ for the doors as I agree this is not professional and should not have happened.”
