An investigation has been launched after the body of a man was found in a flat above a shopping precinct in East Kilbride.
A large police presence remains at the scene at Calderwood Square today after officers were alerted to a report of concern for a person yesterday afternoon.
Police and ambulance crews swarmed the scene shortly after 3pm where they made the grim discovery.
The body of a 44-year-old man was found and police confirmed they are treating the death as “unexplained”.
A post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course.
Officers are still standing guard at the stairwell to the flats above the Day-Today Express store at the square while investigations are carried out.
The front entrance to the properties above the shops remains sealed off.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.05pm on Friday, December 27, we received a report of a concern for person in the Calderwood Square area of East Kilbride.
“Emergency services attended and found the body of a 44-year-old man. His death is being treated as unexplained and a post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course.
“Inquiries remain ongoing.”
