Zander Clark could cross the capital divide with the current Hearts No2 on Hibs’ list of targets, according to a report.
The Easter Road club are in the market for a new keeper when the January window opens for business with Edinburgh Evening News stating they are keen on Rotherham United’s Cameron Dawson. Scotland international Clark is said to be one of several players they monitoring for the summer with his Tynecastle deal expiring.
The 32-year-old is viewed as a longer-term signing with a number of others. He is yet to feature under Neil Critchley with veteran Craig Gordon remaining the No1 under the new boss. The Jambos gaffer has made it clear previously he would like to keep both in his ranks as he spoke on their futures
He explained: “Yes, there’s a situation with Zander and Craigie and that’s something I’ve been speaking to Graeme about recently. So that’s for Graeme, that’s for the club. They know my thoughts. Zander is a top professional and a great guy.
“Even though he’s disappointed not to be playing – because he is a No.1 – I have to say the way he trains and conducts himself around the group every day is outstanding. So that is something for us to discuss for the future.”
“I think you have to take everything into consideration. Zander’s feelings – he’s at a stage of his career where he was playing last season. He was out of the team before I got here. Craigie’s done brilliantly well since I’ve been here, so I don’t see any reason to change that at the moment.
“It’s difficult when you can only pick one. I think we’ve got two No.1s and Fullers [Ryan Fulton] is a fantastic goalkeeper as well. I think we’ve got good competition there. Zander, like all the other players I see, has to be patient and who knows what happens in the future?”
Should a move across Edinburgh to Leith transpire it would offer Clark first-team football under David Gray – something he is desperate to secure. It would also help his chances of regaining his spot in Steve Clarke’s Scotland squads.
Hibs have complied a list of possible free agents signings for next season, including goalkeepers, and Clark’s name is reported to be on it.
