Stephen Craigan sounded like every Motherwell fan inside Fir Park as he commentated on Tawanda Maswanhise’s goal against Rangers.

The former Fir Park star, who played more than 300 games for the Well, was covering the game for BBC Radio Scotland – but seemed to lose his cool as Maswanhise netted a superb second goal for the Steelmen, further ramping up the pressure on Gers boss Philippe Clement, with his side potentially falling 15 points behind arch rivals Celtic with an Old Firm derby on the horizon.

As Zimbabwean striker Maswanhise plucked a cross out of the air, Craigan interrupted host Richard Gordon on Open All Mics, shouting: “Hit it, hit it, hit it. It’s in! Haha! It’s 2-0. Maswanhise, what a piece of skill. It’s helped onto him, he scoops it around, I think it’s Tavernier or Sterling, he just cuts inside with the inside of his right foot and puts in the bottom left-hand corner. What a piece of brilliance.”

The former Northern Ireland international then slated Rangers’ defending, adding: “It’s uncertainty again in that back four, they just do not look comfortable at all. It’s a simple ball into the box, the wind has taken it all over the place and Rangers could not defend it.” Pundit John Rankin said: “It’s a really good turn and really good forward play, but defenesively you’d be really disappointed conceding that goal.”

Maswanhise doubled the Well’s lead after Apostolos Stamatelopoulos’ early opening goal, where he pounced on some hesitant Robin Propper defending to squeeze beyond Jack Butland in the Rangers goal.
