Jim Goodwin hopes the Aberdeen supporters who threw an empty Vodka bottle and missiles at him and his Dundee United backroom team are caught and thrown out of football for life.
United’s 1-0 Tannadice win over the Dons was marred by pyro and things being thrown from the away end at their former boss and his technical area. A steward was ordered to come on to the pitch in the second half to take off a glass bottle that landed on the pitch along with various other objects. Goodwin said: “Yeah, absolutely, skimming over our heads and not just mine, my backroom team, the linesmen and the fourth official.
“I’m curious to know how many things were picked up off the pitch, but there was a considerable amount of objects thrown in our direction. Just thankfully there was a real gust of wind and it affected their aim.
“It’s madness this day and age and hopefully there’s plenty of cameras there at the game today, CCTV and all of that, and hopefully these guys will be caught and thrown out of football for life, but I don’t want to spend too much time talking about that. It’s all about my players, their attitude and their application again tonight.
“Outstanding. As I said, far more good goal-scoring opportunities than what Aberdeen had and I thought we thoroughly deserved the victory in the end.”
Aberdeen boss Goodwin also claimed to be hit with coins when Aberdeen made the visit to Tannadice two seasons ago. His end at Aberdeen didn’t go well but he doesn’t know why he has become a target for some of the Red Army. Goodwin, who led his team to victory, stated: “No, I tried to be as reserved as I possibly could be when the goal went in.
“You know it’s disappointing again, the amount of missiles that are coming down from above. There was a bottle of vodka and coins and firelighters and everything coming down on us. “I’m not sure, you know, what I’ve said in the past to upset them that much.
“Obviously things didn’t work out the way that I would have liked it, the way that they would have liked it when I was a manager, but I haven’t said anything derogatory about that football club. To have that type of stuff hurled down on top of us, it’s not acceptable. I hope the authorities will look at it.”
