Bullish Brendan Rodgers has taken aim at Celtic’s cynics after demolishing struggling St Johnstone.

The Hoops strolled 14 points clear of Rangers at the summit of the Scottish Premiership as they battered the Perth Saints with Nicolas Kuhn, Daizen Maeda and a Kyogo double downing the rock bottom side at Celtic Park as they kept their unbeaten domestic record going. Celtic have netted 52 goals in the league, conceding just four, while holding a significant advantage over the chasing pack – and Rodgers couldn’t resist a swipe at those who doubted him on his return to Glasgow’s east end in the summer of 2023.

The Irishman returned to the club in the shadow of Ange Postecoglou’s tenure with the Australian leading Celtic to a domestic Treble before his departure for Tottenham. After a mixed run of early performances, question marks were raised over the attacking credentials of the side.

And it appears that Rodgers has kept the receipts of those who piled the pressure on early doors. Speaking to BBC Sportsound, the list of scoring statistics were rhymed off in an interview with Rodgers.

The smiling boss clapped back: “Not bad for a team that doesn’t play attacking football, that plays very slow and the tempo isn’t there. So we are doing ok.”
