DALLAS — Amid a string of high-profile burglaries targeting athletes (and one false alarm), another recent theft of a Dallas athlete has surfaced: $500,000 in watches were stolen from Tyler Seguin’s home back in November, police sources told WFAA.
The incident happened at the Stars player’s Preston Hollow home on Nov. 29, the same night Seguin was playing a home game at the American Airlines Center, according to information from police that was obtained by WFAA.
A person at Seguin’s home reported that camera footage showed three suspects climbing a backyard fence and breaking a window to get in the home, police sources said. No one was home when the burglary happened; the person who reported it to police had arrived home about an hour and a half later and noticed the damage. The suspects took five watches, including three Rolexes, that had a total value of around $500,000, according to information from police sources.
The suspects reportedly left the home through the front gate.
When the burglary happened, on the evening of Nov. 29, the Stars were playing a home game against the Colorado Avalanche. The reported break-in happened around 8:30 p.m., according to police sources. The Stars’ game, in which Seguin scored a goal and had an assist, started at 8 p.m.
Burglaries of athletes’ homes have caught attention recently, including in North Texas. Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic’s home was burglarized Friday, as thieves took thousands of dollars worth of jewelry, according to police sources. The day before that happened, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott’s fiancée, Sarah Jane Ramos, had around $40,000 worth of items stolen from her vehicle, while she was taking a Pilates class in Dallas, according to a police report.
On Monday morning, police responded to the home of Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki after a reported break-in. But the incident was ultimately deemed a false security alarm, police sources said.
