A Scots railway line was closed at the weekend after a person was hit by a train.

ScotRail confirmed the tragic incident happened at Uddingston station at around 12pm on Saturday.

All lines between Glasgow Central and Motherwell were closed while emergency services dealt with the tragedy.

Social media reports suggest the horror incident was witnessed by commuters.

A National Rail spokesperson said: “A person has been hit by a train between Glasgow Central and Motherwell.

“Whilst the emergency services carry out their work, all lines between these stations are closed.

“If you’ve been affected by what happened on the network today, there is always someone to talk to.

“You can contact the Samaritans on 116 123 from any phone for a confidential chat.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 11.35am on Saturday, December 28 to attend an incident at Uddingston Train Station. We dispatched one paramedic response unit (PRU) to the scene.”

Services between Glasgow Central and Larkhall and Shotts were also cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes.

The line was closed for around two hours.
