Tributes have been paid to a “loving family man” who tragically died in a horror crash in Stirling on Christmas Day.

The 60-year-old biker – named locally as David Buckley – was pronounced dead at the scene on the A811, between the Kings Knot roundabout and Kippen Station roundabout, near Leckie.

The crash happened at around 2pm on December 25, when his grey Moto Guzzi V100 motorcycle collided with a red Audi A7, driven by a 72-year-old man.

The 72-year-old Audi driver was taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital for treatment to minor injuries.

Police closed the road for around 10 hours while investigations were carried out.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident and officers are now appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward and are particularly keen to speak to the driver of a white Dacia Duster which was spotted in the area at the time of the incident.

Tributes have been paid to Mr Buckley, including from Strathendrick Rugby Club, based in Fintry, Stirling. The club posted on its Facebook page: “The members of Strathendrick Rugby Club were devastated to hear of the tragic death of David Buckley in a road traffic accident on Christmas Day.

“A proud, loving family man, Dave was a keen, active supporter of Strathendrick.”

The club offered its “heart-felt condolences” to Mr Buckley’s grieving family, adding: “We will do anything we can to support the family through this most difficult time and in the months ahead.”

Other tributes flooded in following the devastating news.

One person said: “Being a motorcyclist it brought a tear to my eye especially on Christmas day. Tragic. I was out riding in the morning nearby.”

Another posted: “Awful at any time of the year, but on Christmas day is just horrendous. My thoughts are with his family and friends. RIP ride free.”

A third person added: “Sympathy for everyone involved and the Police officers who had to deal with, and continue to investigate, the tragedy.”

Inspector Andrew Thomson said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at this difficult time. We will continue to support them throughout the investigation.

“I am now appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, and who has not already spoken to officers, to get in touch.

“I would also appeal to anyone who was driving in this area around that time and who may have dash-cam footage which could assist us to contact us.”
