Tom Sparrow believes Motherwell deserved to take all three points from Rangers on Sunday but says they don’t have time to dwell on it.

The Steelmen led 2-0 through first-half strikes from Apostolos Stamatelopoulos and Tawanda Maswanhise.

Rangers sub Igamane pulled a goal back, and Motherwell substitute Tony Watt had two ‘goals’ disallowed, before Igamane again struck to take a point back to Ibrox.

Sparrow says any result against the Glasgow giants is a good one, but might not have accepted a point at the interval.

The midfielder said: “I thought we had won the game. The lads got themselves into a great position at half-time, and it was disappointing to concede so early in the second half, but we did well to hold on in the end.

“A point against Rangers is a decent result but we probably wouldn’t have taken that at half-time.

“Anything against the Old Firm is a good result but when you’re 2-0 up it’s a little bit disappointing.

“But we’ve had a tough fixture schedule, and a point is a good point in the end.

“I thought we deserved to win the game, even with conceding two goals. We’ve put another two in the net, and could have had a few more.”

Motherwell have endured a punishing festive schedule with Celtic and Rangers inside four days, and continue that with a trip to Hearts on January 2, followed by a home clash against Aberdeen next Sunday.

Sparrow said: “It’s two big games again. We don’t really have enough time to look back, and when we did that after Celtic, I thought we started this game brilliantly. We’ll do the same for the game on Thursday.

“We’ve got a good group with good character, so that was never a problem, and we’ll be ready to go again.”
