For the past eight years, Larry Haven has visited his late wife’s grave every single day of the year.

SAN ANTONIO — Some love stories span a lifetime, which is the case for 84-year-old Larry Haven and his late wife, 78-year-old Margrate.

Haven says visiting his wife’s grave every day for the past eight years at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery is routine.

“It’s part of my life,” Haven said. “I get up in the morning, and first thing I do is get ready and come to the cemetery and I spend anywhere from two to three hours with her.”

Haven says their love story began in 1968. They met while working retail.

“She was just perfect in everything I can think of,” he said. “It was not even four months later we were married.”

In 2016, the good times were met with medical challenges.

“For some reason, every time they did Dialysis she just kind of went into a panic and she had a heart attack.”

Now, he takes a piece of Margrate with him wherever he goes.

“That is her wedding ring,” he said. “I had it removed from her finger and put it around my neck ever since.”

No matter the season, Haven visits the love of his life. This is what he lives by.

“A true love story never ends, and ours will never end.”
