Thieves made off with cigarettes and cash from a petrol station in Gretna.
It is believed the garage was broken into between 10pm and 11.30pm on Saturday night, with staff realising what had happened when they turned up for work the following morning.
Police are now checking CCTV footage and are appealing for information.
Detective Sergeant Kirsty Beckett said: “I am appealing to anyone who was in the area of the fuel station around the time of the break-in to consider if they saw anything suspicious or unusual.
“Any small piece of information could assist in our ongoing investigation into this crime.”
