Viewers should buckle up for River City‘s nail-biting finale, as Harry Foulkes is prepared to cause fireworks in a bid to set the record straight and expose the rat in Shieldinch this New Year.
As 2025 beckons, rivalries are stirred at a dangerous showdown between Lenny and Harry on the Scottish-based BBC soap. Despite Eddie trying to keep things calm, Tyler fears his days are numbered.
Later, at the Two Jailbirds, the Murdochs and Foulkes families come together as accusations fly with Eddie and Des pointing the finger to two suspects. With doubts circling, danger comes calling when Harry sets his sights on silencing the rat forever.
Speaking exclusively to the Daily Record, Jim Sturgeon, who has stepped into the role of River City villain Harry, hinted what fans can expect.
“Well I should say the best man wins, but whether it is the best man or not I don’t know. There’s going to be a few ups and downs on the road along the way I think. Maybe someone else comes in, you just don’t know. It’s all up in the air,” he teased.
Discussing his debut on the popular soap, Jim explained joining the cast and crew has been one of the highlights of his career, as he fondly reflected on the laughs they all had on set filming the explosive scenes over the course of three days.
“Strangely enough it took us three days to film the scenes for that episode. There was so much we wanted to get right from the dialogue, the looks and the positioning. We took our time with it and the result was great.
“There was six of us sitting around that table. I can honestly say I have never laughed so much on set as I did those three days. I think because there was so much on these scenes, we really just relaxed into it to be able to do what we do best.”

Jim added, “It was absolutely one of the most amazing three days I’ve had on a set in my life. It just felt like a group of old pals meeting up, and even though the alcohol was of course fake, it did feel at some point at the end of the day you were just drunk on laughter it was such fun. We had a laugh, but we did the work.”
The acting star, who played Katie Morag’s uncle Matthew in the hit BBC show, also explained the pressure that came with venturing into the shoes of Harry Foulkes.
“There was a lot of chat about Harry, and of course his family have been in the show for quite a while, so I guess I stepped into it with the mindset of you know, ‘you’ve gotta get this right fella’,” he admitted.
Harry added, “But everyone, every single man and woman, have been absolutely brilliant. I can honestly say that’s it one of those jobs which makes it a joy every day to go into work. Everyone I spoke to before said you will love it and have so much fun.”
Discussing how he prepared himself for the role, he continued: “It was just about getting as much information about what had gone on and about what the family dynamic was. There was a bit of pressure I won’t lie but if you do the work it comes across.
“I knew it was going to be a big task, so I did as much work as I could do on it and hopefully the viewers are enjoying it. You’ve just got to make bold choices and go with it and believe in what you’re doing.”
“I imagine with what’s just happened with filming, next time I am in Scotland to film even hearing from my family, there might be a few people pointing or a few rotten tomatoes getting flung my way,” he joked.
River City will return for a new series in February 2025. Both episodes available on BBC iPlayer from Monday, December 30.
