The music industry was shocked to it’s core when DJ and record producer Avicii died in 18 after taking his own life.
The Swedish star rose to fame in 2011 with his first single Levels which led to him delivering some incredible chart-busters.
Following his heartbreaking death, the Ericsson Globe in Stockholm was renamed the Avicii arena and an interactive tribute museum called the Avicii Experience was created in his honour.
A documentary called Avicii: I’m Tim has landed on Netflix today (December 31) and showcases the DJ’s incredible journey to become one of the defining artists of this generation.
When he died in 2018, he left behind many of his loved ones, including his ex-girlfriend Emily Goldberg, who he dated from 2011 to 2013.
In a heartbreaking tribute post to him, she penned: “Come on babe, don’t give up on us. Choose me, and I’ll show you love,” those are lyrics from a song Tim wrote for me. I wish I could have lived up to them.
“For the two years we were together, he was my closest confidante, and my best friend. Now I can’t look at Bear without knowing I’ll never see his face again. I’m still collecting my thoughts and thank you for all your kind words and texts.”
She ended the tribute by giving a nod to one of Avicii’s greatest hits as she signed off: “Wake me up when it’s all over, because I don’t want it to be real.”
In the years that followed, Emily would often post about her ex on special days including his birthday and other milestones, referring to him as her “best friend” and “soul mate”.
In a twisted turn of events, Emily herself died this year on April 24 in La Jolla, California, aged 34, as a result of a pulmonary embolism.
Her family, including her parents Julie and Sam Goldberg and brother Aaron described her as a “vivacious and unique person who experienced many adventures in her all too brief life.”
She had just a year prior revealed she was cancer-free in a social media post, after battling the disease for a year.
Emily had expressed: “I lived b****. I have had cancer for the past year. I am now cancer free.”
